Hungary is a landlocked state located in Central Europe, neighboring Austria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Slovakia, Croatia, and Slovenia. The Economic Complexity Index ranks Hungary as the 10th most complex economy globally whilst the IMF ranks it as the 57th-largest economy in the world, the 40th in terms of GDP per capita. Hungary is an OECD member with the 35th largest export economy in the world, a very high human development index, and a highly-skilled labor force. Hungary is the leading producer of electronics in Central and Eastern Europe and has a vibrant economy stimulated by many reputable multinationals like the OTP Bank, Zwack Unicum, the MOL Group, Magyar Telekom, FHB Bank, Gedeon Richter Plc, and CIG Pannonia. Because of this, Hungary attracts the most foreign direct investment in the subregion and has become a major center for information security, mobile technology, and related hardware research. Hungary is home to many World Heritage Sites and is considered one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
The Hungarian higher education system consists of about 67 higher education institutions, including small colleges and top research universities offering more than 500 courses in English, German, French and other languages. 28 of these institutions are funded by the state, 11 are funded by the private sector and 26 of them are funded by churches. Hungary is home to some of the oldest universities in the world, such as the University of Miskolc, University of Pecs established in 1367, Obuda University founded in 1395, Universitas Istropolitana, founded in 1465, Nagyszombat University established in 1635, and The Budapest University of Technology and Economics, considered the oldest institute of technology. Several Nobel Prize Winners and scientific inventors studied in Hungary.
